Pay-as-you-go token packs, the free welcome credit, and BYOK
Pay as you go
Coffeescribe is currently pay-as-you-go. You buy a one-time token pack, the tokens land in your balance, and you spend them on scribes, audiobooks, research, and everything else that costs tokens. There's no subscription to sign up for and nothing recurring — buy a pack when you need one, top up whenever you like, and the tokens never expire.
Monthly subscription plans (with a recurring token allowance) are coming soon. Until then, token packs give you full access.
Token Packs
Any signed-in user can buy a token pack — there's no tier requirement.
- $10 → 10M tokens
- $20 → 20M tokens
- $50 → 50M tokens
Packs are one-time purchases. When you buy one, you're taken to our secure checkout (handled by Polar — see Payment below). As soon as the payment completes, the tokens are credited to your balance — usually within seconds. Tokens never expire, and you can buy as many packs as you like.
You can buy a pack from the Pricing page, from your Settings, or from the top-up prompt that appears when your balance runs low.
Free usage
You don't need to buy anything to start:
- Welcome credit on signup — a one-off token allowance so you can explore the full app
- Full app access — every creation mode, Research Cafes, Workspace, web search, exports (PDF, Word, EPUB, JSON), audiobooks, and the full 350+ model picker
- Reading mode with dictionary lookup
- The CoffeeScribe Model is pre-selected and recommended by default, but you're free to pick any other model from the picker — pricier models simply cost more tokens
When your welcome credit runs out, buy a token pack to keep going — or bring your own AI provider key (below).
Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
Prefer to use your own AI account? In Settings → API Keys you can paste your own provider keys (OpenRouter, OpenAI, and more). When a key is present, generation for that provider runs on your account instead of spending Coffeescribe tokens. BYOK is entirely optional and is the alternative to buying token packs. Subscription tiers
Coffeescribe doesn't sell monthly subscription tiers right now — there's nothing to upgrade or downgrade. Every signed-in user reaches every feature, gated only by your token balance: the full 350+ model picker, audiobooks, all export formats (PDF, Word, EPUB, JSON), all Research Mode provider searches, Find the Truth, Verify, and everything else. Free, Pro, and Creator still exist internally as account labels (a holdover from an earlier subscription model, and the seat that a future subscription relaunch will reuse), but no feature, limit, or price depends on which one your account has today.

Everything in this table is gated by your token balance, not by an account tier. If you run out of tokens mid-task, buy a pack or add a BYOK provider key — see below.
Payment
Purchases are processed by Polar, which acts as our Merchant of Record. Polar is the seller of record for your purchase — it handles checkout, billing, sales tax/VAT/GST, and receipts, and processes any order-related inquiries or refunds. Polar uses Stripe as its downstream card processor; Coffeescribe never sees or stores your card details.
Your receipt is emailed to you by Polar. After your first purchase, a "Manage billing & receipts" link appears in your Settings — it opens the Polar customer portal, where you can view invoices and manage your payment method.
