Subscription Tiers

Coffeescribe offers three tiers, organised around a simple lock-vs-unlock mental model. Free and Pro share a single curated default model — the CoffeeScribe Model — so the experience stays predictable and the cost stays stable. Creator is the unlock side: it adds the model picker, top-ups, and a much bigger token bucket.

Free — $0/month

Get started without a credit card. The Free tier includes:

Welcome credit on signup — a one-off allowance to explore the full app
Full app access — every creation mode, Research Cafes, Workspace, web search, exports
3 lifetime PDF exports (Word, EPUB, StoryBook, HTML, and Markdown are unlimited)
Reading mode with dictionary lookup
Locked to the CoffeeScribe Model — our curated default, maintained for the best balance of quality and cost
All scribes are public

Good for: Trying out Coffeescribe, experiencing the full platform before committing, casual exploration.

Limitations:

No model picker — you use the curated CoffeeScribe Model
No private scribes — everything you create is visible in the library
No audiobook generation

Pro Reader — $7.99/month ($79.99/year, ~16.6% off)

For regular users who want a bigger bucket and the privacy/quality features paid tiers unlock.

The full Coffeescribe experience. Everything in Pro, plus the model picker, token top-ups, and a doubled monthly bucket.

Larger monthly allowance (about double Pro's), with unused tokens rolling forward up to one extra month
Token top-ups — buy more tokens any time, never expire, can push you above the carry-over cap
One-time goodwill grant per cycle — same safety net as Pro: if you hit zero before renewal, we give you extra tokens to finish your current work without an interrupt. After the grant is spent, top-ups are your normal recovery path.
Full model picker — CoffeeScribe Model recommended at the top, ~12 curated alternatives, plus a collapsed disclosure for the full 350+ OpenRouter catalogue (advanced — at your own risk; smaller models may produce lower-quality output)
Workspace — full editing suite (also available to lower tiers, but heaviest use lives here)

*All scribe creation is subject to available token credits. Free tier users receive a one-time welcome credit on signup.

Token Top-ups (Creator only)

Creator users can top up their balance any time. Top-up tokens never expire, are added to your balance immediately, and can push you above the monthly carry-over cap (because they're purchased separately).

$10 → 10M tokens
$20 → 20M tokens
$50 → 50M tokens

Top-ups are not available on Free or Pro. If you regularly run out before your renewal on the Pro tier, the Creator upgrade is almost always the better fit — bigger monthly bucket plus top-ups when you need them.

Payment

All payments are processed by Paddle, which acts as our Merchant of Record. Paddle handles billing, tax collection, and payment processing. Prices may include local taxes depending on your region.

Changing Plans

You can upgrade, downgrade, pause, or cancel your subscription at any time from your Settings page. Your existing token balance is preserved across tier changes — only the rules going forward change (model picker access, carry-over cap, top-up access). See Upgrading and Downgrading for details.
